LHAT Network Rules & Etiquette

Thank you for being part of the LHAT Network. To ensure the best possible experience for all members, we have established some basic guidelines for participation.

By joining and using LHAT's private online community, you agree that you have read and will follow these rules and guidelines. You also agree to reserve discussions and shared files and content to that best suited to the medium. This new medium provides many advantages over the LHAT-CHAT listserv to allow you to solicit the advice of your peers, benefit from their experience, and participate in ongoing conversations.

Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with the guidelines. If you have questions, contact Colleen Poehlman, Membership Services Director using the Contact us link on the Network home page (top right) or send email directly to info@lhat.org.  In order to preserve a climate that encourages both civil and fruitful dialogue, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate participation in the Network for anyone who violate these rules.

The Rules

  • Don't challenge or attack others. Network discussions and comments are meant to stimulate conversation, not to create contention. Let others have their say, just as you may. Be nice. No profanity. While lively debate is certainly encouraged, please remain respectful and professional.

  • Don't post commercial messages on any discussion/eGroup, resource library entry, or other area where others might see it. Contact people directly off-line with product and service information if you believe it would help them. Use caution when discussing products and vendors. Information posted on the lists and in the libraries is available for all LHAT members to read, and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws.

  • All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited. Even though the LHAT Network is only open to LHAT Theatre and Allied members and we have rules about sharing information posted on the Network with those who are not LHAT members, we cannot control all participants' activity.  While the Network will provide as secure an environment as the LHAT-CHAT did, please use care when crafting messages and posting resources.

  • Please note carefully all items listed in the disclaimer and legal rules below, particularly regarding the copyright ownership of information posted.

  • Remember that other participants have the right to reproduce postings to this site unless you specify otherwise; however please do not forward a post to someone outside of your organization without first asking for and obtaining the permission of the person whose post you wish to forward.

  • Post your messages or resources only to the most appropriate discussions/eGroups and libraries. Do not spam several lists or libraries with the same message.

  • All messages must add to the body of knowledge. LHAT reserves the right to reject any message for any reason at any time.

LHAT Network Etiquette

  • Include a signature tag on all messages. Include your name, organization/affiliation, location, but do not attach images unrelated to the message itself, like company logos or upcoming show or product graphics.

  • State briefly, concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject/keyword. When replying, please don't alter the subject line so the discussion thread will stay together, under the same heading.

  • Include only enough of the original message(s) for clarification in your reply (not the entire thread). Delete any header information, and put your response before the original posting.

  • Only send a message to the entire list when it contains information that everyone can benefit from.

  • Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals -- not to the entire list. Do this by using the "Reply to Sender" link available with every message.

  • Do not post administrative messages, such as "remove me from the list" or "remove me from x date to y date because I'll be out of town."  Instead, use the Network's "My Subscriptions" section to change your settings or to remove yourself from a list, permanently or temporarily. If you are changing email addresses, you do not need to remove yourself from the list and rejoin under your new email address. Simply use the "edit your contact information" link in your profile.

  • While it will take time to build a new body of knowledge in the Network, before you post a new question, do a search of discussions and resources first to see if your question has been already been asked and answered.
